Dante Gabriel Rossetti  (1828–1882) - "A Fight for a Woman," circa 1853.

This article is the main part of “Language, Understanding and Medicine” and also follows on from “Ideas and Understanding: The first remedy for abnormality.”

One interesting kind of confrontation connected with understanding is “logical confrontation” – a term that is especially used all through Gurdjieff’s first series [3]. It is not given any neat, concise definition by him, but seems to invite or even compel gradual comprehension of it by the reader on repeated reading and striving to fathom the gist of what he is saying. The word logical in this term, with the root of logos, seems to give the idea of words being used in this confrontation. However, nowhere does its context give any suspicion of much likeness to the usual use of the word logical.
