Now you know that there is a phrase in the Work which says that unless a man divides himself into two, into an observing and an observed side, he can never shift from where he is. This is the starting-point of all else.
"Let us note here that the position of Observing 'I' is always internal to what it observes." I feel this is an error.
Our guide must always be the Ray of Creation and G's descriptions of the Ray of Creation make it clear the higher contains the lower. Thus, the observing 'I' contains the observed, just as the earth resides within the sun and the sun with the galaxy, and so on, Everything is contained within the All, the Absolute. Similarly, the Higher Being Bodies must be more expansive than the gross body. Surely, we can feel this, Awareness is not limited by the physical body.
Thanks for your reflections, James. Maybe this is a special use of the word "internal." And perhaps our usual notions of internal/external and spatial relations are misleading in this context. And no doubt, Nicoll has often to "speak roughly." There can also be a perception of vast inner space, as it were, within this temporary home of the body.
There is an apparent process beginning with awareness of the body and perceptions of the out side. As G says at the end of the 3rd Series, our work is to blend these. Then from that new perspective inner and outer are one. Correlating with the Ray of Creation, this is the perspective of a higher world, an apparent ‘new’ body. Of course it is not new, it was always there. What is new is that I am no longer identified with the lower, limited body.
