I wrote in the post Exact and Inexact, that one notable feature, to me, about ordinary conversations trying to fathom the gist of Gurdjieff’s teaching, is the marked sloppiness of the language that tends to be used, even applying ordinary standards. I recall, in contrast, the following well-known saying of Gurdjieff, as reported by Ouspensky:
“For exact understanding exact language is necessary.”1
Should we not also strive for more exactness in communicating with each other, and striving to articulate one’s thoughts, even to oneself? This is notwithstanding that it may seem impossible, and must consist of a persistent re-examination and refining of one’s language and comprehension.
